Few years back I was talking to a winner who had easily accomplished beyond what people of his level usually achieve in term of bigger goals. In a long conversation with him I got very valuable insight on what it takes to win. It was a great and an eye opening discussion that I had with him. With my corporate work culture background I was expecting many management tips, from him, but what I got instead did astonish me. With few examples he showed me how a winner thinks differently than a looser. In the course of time I practiced it in my life and I got wonderful results. There is a very subtle and fine knowledge that can convert a losing situation to a winning situation. Winning is a mental state, once reached there, whatever done will be a grand success. A minor correction in thought pattern can convert a loser to a big time winner. The change in the thinking pattern will change the perception; the difference it will make will be visible and immediately influence the result of whatever done. With change of perception the world will look different than it used to be before. Things will be much clearer and apprehend-able, as a result of that the actions will have direct, positive and big impact on the results. That will not only change the outcome of the actions but also it will change you. It will have impact on the personality of winner it will change the look, the body language; the style of talking. It will make the practice-nor visibly a winner.
Winner expect to win while looser expect to lose. Winner expects to win. Winner does have a mental picture of the grand success, the celebration and the praises. He sees the picture of the successfully completed result. He sees the future success to such a greater detail that any non confirmation to it now makes him uncomfortable. He fills the gap if any in the perfect picture in his mind and celebrates it. A winner will be seen being happy with the success even before it comes. He gets engrossed with the perfect picture of the success and the details of the gradual progression towards the success. His activities are constructive and directly focused towards the result. Winners have a great faith in his ability to make the success happen. He spots the opportunity that helps him reach success. The winner looks much relaxed and ease at work. Winning takes a lot of mental energy and winner conserve energy. Most of the time the winner will not be able tell the exact reason of his success. That is the reason the success of winners are attributed to luck. The loser in the other hand do not expect the success, he wish the success. His will be more wish-full thinking of success. His thinking will be like ‘If I win’ then bla bla bla , while mentally he will be preparing the alibi for the failure. He will be prepared with the facts and figures and justification for the failure at every stage of the undertaking. And it is a strange and mysterious fact that the looser face a lot of practical road blocks in achieving success, to add to his arsenal of alibi. The looser gets engrossed in discussing the reason of the failure or the argument on the accountability of the problem. Loser doesn’t see the path to success, and does everything as per the book, even if that does not ensure success. Loser will look over worked, concerned for the success of the project and very serious about the every small problems comes in road of success. The loser will always have well thought of and calculated reason for the failure.
Winner sees the future while loser sees the past
Winner sees the path to success very clearly in his mind. If any unfortunate event takes him away and deviate him from the path, then all his energy and effort goes to getting it back to the track only. Winner will access the damage, looks into the future and takes steps necessary for the success. Winner does not get engrossed in any postmortem if that does not ensure success. Winner sees the things functioning and stands like a watch dog observing the success taking shape. Winner knows that past is gone and future is the only possibility, and focus on the current action which shapes the future. Winner prophesies winning.Loser on the other hand gets engrossed in all small problems encountered in the path, even if it is very normal to encounter such problems. Loser will discuss the problems in length and try to justify his stand. In the process he loses the focus on the current action and ensures failure. Loser prophesies losing.
Winner carefully selects his actions and loser does too much Winners usually are very good at that. They usually are very carefully selecting the course of action that will cause the desired effect. They carefully plan the actions based on the chain reaction that it might cause. They take many small actions that cause symphony of chain reactions that creates desired result. He carefully refrain himself from doing anything that can cause any chain of event that can interfere with the success of project, And he also ensure no one else causing such things. Winner will usually have through knowledge of standard procedure. He carefully judges the standard procedures and follows them only if it ensures success. If necessary, winner deviates from the standard procedure. You will find successful people with plenty of time in hand to put to the work if necessary. They usually take time to think. Loser in the other hand toil and over do things, he worry too much and to ensure success does more than necessary or unnecessary things which causes many chain of events that gradually goes out of his control. Looser some time will either will have no knowledge of the standard procedure, or with little knowledge of standard procedure, follows it blindly. People in this category will usually look over-worked and look busy, with little time and energy left to put in case of emergency.
Winners can’t stand failure, while loser prepared for failure The winner takes the ownership of the win, It’s his dream that the he expects to come true. In case of failure which usually doesn’t happen for the winners, the winner takes complete responsibility of the failure. The pain that the winner goes through in case of failure is usually more than any punishment given to him. This characteristic of a winner forces him to do everything to ensure success. A looser can stand failure much easily, He has a mental picture of the failure much before the failure comes and is already well adjusted to it. He would have made alibi, exit plan and alternate arrangements. This tendency of a loser does not allow him to put all his strength to the cause.
Winner is in perfect harmony with the environment where as loser blames the environment. A winner takes time to understand their world, or the environment they operate in. They understand the people the system that are influential and critical for the success. Winners use those for the success of the undertaking. Winner understands that the various elements are integral parts of the environment and can not be eliminated. The winner makes the plans keeping the elements of environment in mind. Various environmental factors that the losers usually blame are the corruption, the politics, the market fluctuations etc.. Looser get into a loosing fight with the environment and spend the vital energy necessary for the success. This makes the looser blind to the opportunities that the environment might present.
We all are winners
We all are winners in a small or big way. There are no clear winner or looser in the society. We are looser and winner with respect to the undertaking. A person might be a winner in academic and some one else will be winner in sports. Winning is a very essential for every individuals self recognition. We must get our share of winning, and we do ensure that. Winning in a small or big way do ensure our self respect and dignity. We will win in whatever we hold dear to us. How big is your goal? We all win in a small or big way every day. How big is your winning and where you would like to win defines what kind of person you are. We all must set bigger goals in our life to win. One significant winning can make your life fulfilling and rewarding than numerous small and insignificant winnings. In absence of a bigger goal people tends to fight to win smaller stuff. You will find people fighting over very small insignificant stuffs; those are the people void of big goals, or people who identify the success of their life with small and cheap achievements. The small fights to win a road rage or a mundane argument, small politics in work, small showoffs within our circles, small profit in a wrong way, are the example of absence of bigger goal. A person with one bigger goal will not mind loosing small and insignificant things. Wining is carefully selecting defeats. I personally deliberately lost many mundane arguments with client if that gives the client a feel of control over me. Every day will present you with many challenges which will tempt you to fight and win. You need to carefully select the defeat in 95% of those cases. By losing the 95% you avoid making unnecessary enemy, you conserve vital energy, you prevent your environment being hostile to you. You can be a big winner if you carefully select only 5% of those worth fight for and win. You must carefully select those 5% best aligned to your strategic move. With less number of the fight your chances to win will be more against people who chose to win all the fights. People can set various kinds of goals to achieve for themselves and each of them is equally great. Very high standard should be set, and should be achieved. The goal can be of any field like Education, Academic, Oratory, Politics, Medicine, Public Service, Sports, Defense, Exploration, Knowledge, Spirituality, Engineering, Construction, and Business etc, But whatever you do “Either do best in the world or don’t do it at-all”. |
