Being a champion

Author: Smruti Ranjan Sarangi

In Olympic it is most of the time said that the difference between First and Second is fraction of a second. I say, that’s not true. “The difference between the first and the second is always a million miles”.

Being the second or third is comparatively easy. All it takes is extra effort, dedication, practice, hard work, commitment, competitiveness, strategy to be a second in a competition. But being champions is altogether a different ballgame. Champions operate from a level above it. In that sphere all those said before becomes insignificant and becomes just a regular easy thing to do. Champions knowingly or unknowingly originated from that mindset.

It takes the hard work to make a champion. I do not undermine the value of hard work, discipline, and all that is said above. Those are must to win, but these come secondary, and a people who only rely on that can only go up to becoming second.

Champions work from a different mindset. Many champions remain un-defeated for many years. In that period they defeat many young and strong contenders who go up to become the second. Many records of champions remain unbroken for years until a champion is born. Many achievements in various fields startle people for decades.

What is the mindset that we are talking about here? ……..

It is a mindset that can only be transmitted over a conversation. However I am making an attempt to explain something “about it”.

A runners-up contest against the best timing set by a champion. All his effort goes against how close he can get to that timing and he works on strategy to beat it. He dreams about beating the champion by a huge margin.

On the other hand the champion has no one to compare himself with. He will have no target to fight against; the strategy is not to beat a particular threshold. A champion does not try to just stay ahead of second. A true Champion works from a mindset that is not competitive in nature. The mindset is to be one with nature and excel in the spirit of being alive.

Many a time the true champion with such mindset originates from much unexpected places naturally. Many sports champions are seen from third world countries. Many newcomer champions beat the other competitors with a huge margin the first time they get on to the arena.

This is a mind set that any person can be conditioned to. Once conditioned to this mindset the person is trapped in it and a champion is made. After that no one can stop him from being a champion, not even the person himself. The character of the person will change for ever and will be a natural winner.

This works for students, athletes and sports persons, professionals, and any one who want to achieve something in life. A series of coaching can make the difference. Mere reading or understanding will not help, but a focused coaching will.
